During major surgery in October 1985, the experiencer had a terrifying near-death experience. She found herself climbing a steep mountain on hands and knees in complete silence. An extremely bright light was at the mountain's top while menacing darkness rose from below. She had one urgent thought: reach the light before the darkness catches her or she could never return. She sensed friendly beings encouraging her telepathically to reach the light, while dark entities pursued her from below. The light beings extended protection but couldn't help directly - she had to climb herself. The experience was a race between light and darkness. A doctor later revived her by slapping and shouting "Wake up!" She experienced flashbacks for 15 years until understanding the experience. Two subsequent spiritual experiences involved her deceased stepfather appearing with bright light telling her to go to church, and her deceased godmother informing her of healing. The experience transformed her from atheist to Catholic, bringing understanding of the spiritual battle between light and darkness.
