Working at a psychiatric hospital, the experiencer was attacked by a man she had temporarily sheltered. He broke in through a fire escape window and stabbed her three times - left shoulder above clavicle, left breast near sternum, and abdomen below diaphragm. As she lay dying, she thought "I am dying" and experienced profound peace. She walked toward a brilliant white light when a voice said "No go back, you are not ready." She experienced heightened awareness during the attack, seeing events on both the fire escape and street simultaneously. Time stood still as she comprehended everything happening. She heard her neighbor yelling "Stop!" and staff members shouting different things. She could have killed her attacker but the voice said "No" when urged to do so. She threw the knife away instead. She heard medical staff concerned about her blood pressure (80/60) and collapsed veins. She saw herself from above before returning. The experience transformed her spirituality from uncertain Catholic to universal faith, understanding God lives within us all.
