A nurse collapsed suddenly and was found to have septic pneumonia, spending a week in a coma with multiple organ infections. She deteriorated to kidney failure with only 5% survival chance. While comatose, she experienced horrific nightmares involving trauma stories from her clients affecting loved ones, including hearing her dogs screaming. After days of nightmares, she found herself in a desert at night with millions of stars, a dirt road, and an adobe motel. She felt overwhelming contentment, peace, and love beyond earthly experience. She was in a triangular room with a middle-aged woman and child. On a patio, she saw what looked like a train moving up into the sky with brilliant white light, with people running to board it. She understood she needed to decide whether to get on the train. Initially undecided, the nightmares returned. Later she wished for the desert dream again and immediately returned to the same scene. Still undecided but thinking of her daughter, she chose to return and woke up. She retained perfect memory of every detail and sensation.
