On April 17, 1979, seventeen-year-old Sean climbed over a hedge and slipped while trying to catch barbed wire. The barb tore extensively up his forearm causing severe blood loss. He experienced two separate near-death experiences - first at the accident scene, then later that night at his parents' house after losing a dangerous amount of blood. His heartbeat became increasingly shallow and fast until the beats merged into one spasm, indicating cardiac distress from blood loss.
In his first NDE at the accident scene, Sean walked toward a silvery white beautiful orchard where he saw beings he knew but had never met in this life. He felt light and free from pain. He approached a cold stream with the knowledge that crossing it would mean never returning. Despite disliking his life and wanting to cross, he battled against returning but couldn't cross the barrier. He was suddenly back in his body with intense pain. In his second NDE that night, Sean popped out of his body and saw colors emanating from his sleeping parents. He could see through walls and gave off white light himself. He shot through space where mountains appeared as molehills, eventually encountering a small point of light that grew larger and enveloped him with pure love. The Light Being, which Sean recognized as God, was a thousand times brighter than the sun but didn't burn. It communicated through thought transference, showing no interest in religious practices but only asking "How much love was in your heart?" The Light mentioned Jesus weeping for Lazarus, saying "The Holy Spirit weeps for its children." It offered to show Sean all the times he had been "one with it" and gave him prophecies about his future, including that he would have his heart broken at age 52 and would likely want to commit suicide but should remember the Light's love. The Light was amoral in that it didn't judge right from wrong but reflected on actions and their consequences with pure love. After the experience, Sean had supernatural abilities for several weeks including seeing in the dark, reading people's thoughts, and having the Light speak to him. The Light warned him to keep quiet about the experience or risk being locked up. These abilities gradually faded. Years later, the prophecy about heartbreak came true exactly as foretold. The experience completely transformed Sean's worldview, making him realize that what he had considered good was actually bad and vice versa, requiring him to relearn everything including how to walk.
