After losing consciousness from blood loss, Sarah felt warm and relaxed - more comfortable than she had ever been with a profound sense of belonging. She saw a white glowing light surrounding her and felt as if she were floating. Though she saw no physical bodies and felt she had no body herself, she was aware of being surrounded by familiar souls. There was a general sense of familiarity and belonging with these presences, though she couldn't identify specific individuals from her past. She heard whispering but couldn't make out the words or language initially. The experience was characterized by complete absence of pain and feeling nothing but love and comfort. The floating and comfortable feeling lasted for what seemed like a great amount of time until she began hearing words she could understand. At this point, she experienced being forced back into her body. The calming glowing light disappeared, replaced by harsh surgical lamps and overwhelming pain. She felt like someone was telling her to go back to be with her baby, that it wasn't her time yet, though she didn't hear this audibly but rather sensed it as a message. The most emotionally significant aspect for Sarah was the anger and frustration of being "put back" in her body. Despite having just given birth, she was not thankful for being alive but angry that the comfort and love had been ripped from her. She felt she belonged in that place of light and love. The experience left her without fear of death and with lasting changes in how she views life and mortality.
