Mary experienced kidney failure from multiple kidney stones two months after giving birth. After weeks hospitalized with a fever over 106°F from blood poisoning, she received last rites and was taken to surgery for an experimental blood bath procedure. Her heart stopped and she was clinically dead.
During the operation, Mary floated above the operating theater and listened to doctors discuss that she was dead anyway and they should try the new technique for medical advancement. She felt pulled toward a warm, wonderful light and could hear muffled voices and music. She saw the defibrillator pads placed on her chest and heard the flatline monitor. She was told by an unrecognized voice that it wasn't her time and was pushed back into her body. Days later when she awoke, she told the doctor she had watched the operation. When rushed back to surgery for complications, she correctly told him he hadn't sealed one of the valves properly. The doctor was amazed and asked how she knew what went wrong during the operation.
