Michael came home from work to find his wife with swollen legs from undiagnosed liver failure. She refused to go to the hospital and wanted to lie down. He put her to bed around 9 PM and lay beside her. When he woke at 4 AM to check on her, she was not breathing. Despite attempting mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, it was too late. After calling 911, he passed out from the shock. While unconscious, he found himself flying into puffy clouds in a vividly blue sky, then at the ocean near high cliffs. He experienced complete bliss and felt he no longer had to worry about anything. Suddenly he felt pushed back into his body and heard the 911 operator yelling "Sir, are you all right?" repeatedly. Upon waking, the reality of his wife's death came crashing back and his heart raced. The vivid blue sky and clouds had a vividness he had never experienced before. The experience strengthened his belief in Jesus and God, and he no longer fears death. He describes the emotional state as utter bliss during the experience, contrasting sharply with the distress upon return.
