Martin had kidney surgery complications requiring two operations. After being released home following the second surgery, he fainted one night. He felt himself rising up in darkness, then everything turned gray like fog all around. He felt immense peace and serenity, not scared but disconcerted. He didn't feel the weight of his body though he was aware he was there. In the fog, he saw a lighter dot that attracted him. As he decided to advance toward it, he heard a masculine voice over his right shoulder say "Not yet" and touch his shoulder. When he tried to turn, he felt like he was falling. He suddenly woke up in his mother's room with her crying and hugging him. Medical services diagnosed a sudden blood pressure drop. Martin believes he had cardiac arrest based on how he felt when returning to consciousness - throwing his head back trying to breathe as if he hadn't breathed for a long time, with cold sweat. The experience left him with awareness that life continues after death.
