Robert had at least 12 fainting spells with two NDEs about seven years apart. Diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope, mitral valve prolapse, and heart murmur, he experienced identical NDEs where the second continued where the first ended. During these episodes, he remembered bright white light and felt like walking with purpose rather than through a confined tunnel. In the first NDE, paramedics had defibrillators ready when he regained consciousness. In the second NDE at a cardiologist's office during a stress test, he saw people who looked at him questioningly, as if wondering why he was there, suggesting it wasn't his time. Both cardiologists dismissed his NDEs as reactions to his medical condition. As a recovering alcoholic sober for 2.5 years, he uses his NDE experiences to help maintain sobriety and improve his quality of life, feeling guilty about his drinking after the experiences.
