Linda underwent emergency tonsillectomy in 1942. She feared death walking to the operating room and was strapped to an ironing board-like table before ether anesthesia was administered. After complete darkness, she wanted to see her mother in the waiting room. She floated through a glass window and tugged at her mother's arm, though her mother couldn't hear or feel her. She then saw a beautiful golden sun and heard a deep voice saying she didn't have to go back. Frantically wanting to remain embodied for her future, she insisted on returning despite the voice warning of a difficult life ahead. When asked if willing to suffer, she said yes. The doctor revived her by external heart massage. Years later at age 9, her mother confirmed feeling the tug on her arm and that surgery took too long. The experience transformed her spiritually, leading to born-again Christianity and understanding that love continues beyond death.
