Lauren underwent emergency cesarean section requiring general anesthesia when epidural proved insufficient. She remembers nothing after medication until flying out of her body through the top of her head. Everything appeared blue as she floated uncertainly before looking down at her newborn son in his incubator on the other side of the curtain. She thought "Am I dead? If I am dead, it's okay because the baby is alright." She later saw a Polaroid photo matching exactly what she observed from above. She floated out of the hospital, seeing yellow bricks outside, and searched for her terminally ill great-grandmother to see if she had arrived yet. She felt free and peaceful until floating back down with no further memory until waking. The experience involved significant blood loss requiring two transfusions. Her veridical observation of her son from an impossible vantage point was confirmed by photograph.
