Laura experienced severe chest pains from a new heart medication prescribed by her cardiologist. Paramedics arrived quickly and gave her medication in the ambulance causing her to fall asleep. She became aware she was no longer in this world with an overwhelming feeling of love and tranquility. Though concerned about leaving her husband and children, she knew they would be alright. She saw a light in the distance with vague movement of several people she could not identify. She was moving toward this activity when suddenly she felt crushing chest pain and opened her eyes in the emergency room. Medical staff had used defibrillator paddles three times and finally a cardiac thump which restored her heart rhythm. The experience left her with changed priorities, realizing material things don't matter and that love and relationships are most important. She no longer fears death and became more compassionate toward others.
