Fifteen-year-old Kelli experienced cardiac arrest and respiratory distress from a crack cocaine overdose during a traumatic period when her mother was having an affair with Kelli's boyfriend. After using crack all night, she developed sharp stabbing chest pains and slowed breathing. When she sought help from her mother, blood was coming from her nose, but her mother dismissed it as attention-seeking. Her brother, an EMT and fireman, recognized she was in cardiac arrest and respiratory distress. The crack smoke had caused lung bleeding, lung collapse, and cardiac complications. Her brother saved her life - she would have died within minutes without his intervention.
During the cardiac arrest, Kelli moved through a tunnel filled with bright white light, repeatedly going in and out of consciousness. She felt pulled toward the light and sensed someone at the other end whom she thought was God. She told Him she was sorry for her sins but wasn't ready to die, wanting to stay for her mother. She then felt a love within her that she had never known before or since. The experience involved floating in the tunnel, feeling completely safe despite knowing she was dying, and experiencing overwhelming divine love. She understood she was part of the universe and not a single separate entity. The key observation was the conversation where she heard divine communication and felt unprecedented love when expressing her desire to return for her mother's sake. This divine encounter provided her with understanding about eternal existence and universal connection. She gained awareness that she would always exist and continue eternally as part of something greater than individual existence. After recovering in a youth crisis center, Kelli later had a second NDE from another overdose two years ago, which showed only darkness and void rather than light. These experiences transformed her life - she got clean, gave herself to God, and learned that acceptance from God is what matters rather than human acceptance. She now understands that her next death should lead to the light and God's presence rather than darkness.
