Seven-year-old Kathy was swimming at a canal with her sister and friends when she jumped off a concrete platform with a ten-foot-wide waterfall. The waterfall produced an intensely strong underwater current that caught her, swirling her around repeatedly. As she was pulled by the current, she couldn't help ingesting large amounts of water. She was drowning when her sister noticed she hadn't surfaced and had her friend Sonny jump in to rescue her. They pulled her out and pushed on her back to expel water from her lungs.
During the drowning, after passing through the initial panic, Kathy suddenly left her body and found herself watching from just below the waterline. She observed her body swirling in the current while experiencing complete detachment - realizing she was drowning but feeling no fear or concern. From this out-of-body perspective, she experienced what is described as "my life passing before my eyes," seeing every moment of her seven years of life as if watching a movie in what could only have been seconds of real time. The life review was comprehensive despite her young age, showing her entire life experience. She noted there was "no sin to account for, no lessons to learn" at age seven, but she saw everything completely. Throughout the experience, she felt she was not alone and had complete peace. She was aware she was about to die physically but understood this was "no big deal" - she had no fear and felt only complete peace about the transition. After being rescued and recovering, Kathy's perspective on death was permanently transformed. She has never feared death since, understanding that deceased loved ones are not truly dead but have entered the next realm of existence. She feels secure knowing she will see them again. The experience gave her deep empathy and sensitivity to others' emotions, feeling connected to all humanity and animals as "one creation." She understands that if people knew how loved and valued they are by the creator, earth would be heaven with no illness, pain, death, hatred or war.
