Karl experienced a severe accident around 1968 when he fell from a carriage and was dragged under the wheel. The wheel dragged him but did not run over him completely. He suffered severe injuries including bad crushes and a broken upper arm, requiring immediate hospitalization. The trauma was life-threatening enough to trigger an out-of-body experience during the accident.
During the incident, Karl left his body and found himself floating above the scene. From this elevated perspective, he observed himself lying under the carriage wheel. He saw his father struggling desperately to help him, including watching his father shake him trying to get a response. In the distance, he perceived an indescribable bright white light that was completely different from any earthly light he had ever seen. He found himself swinging back and forth between observing the light and watching the scene below with his body. While outside his body, Karl experienced no pain - only profound calm and peace. His consciousness and perception were remarkably clear and distinct, with the memory remaining vivid even 45 years later. He was aware of everything happening but felt no fear about his situation, experiencing instead a sense of calmness and happiness. Time seemed to have no meaning during the experience. Suddenly, Karl was back in his body and immediately felt strong pain from his injuries. He was then transported to the hospital for treatment. The experience fundamentally changed his perspective on death and existence. He became convinced that consciousness can exist without a body and that there is life after death. He lost his fear of death, understanding that after death, the body is just an empty shell while life in the form of spirit continues toward the light. Even decades later, the memory remains as clear as if it happened yesterday.
