Laila was pregnant with a due date of December 27, 2012, and had spent a difficult pregnancy caring for her sick mother. On December 26, her water broke and she went to the hospital in full labor with intense contractions occurring only seconds apart. While using nitrous oxide for pain relief during labor, Laila experienced a profound separation from her body that lasted approximately thirty seconds. During this out-of-body state, she heard unfamiliar, calm voices telling her to go back, which contrasted sharply with the panicky voices of her husband and attending nurse in the physical realm. She observed a bright light in the distance during her separation from her body. Throughout the experience, Laila felt completely pain-free and calm, with heightened consciousness and faster thoughts, while time seemed to have no meaning. When she returned to her body, she could hear the regular voices of her husband and the nurse, who was shouting at her to wake up, and she immediately felt the return of strong labor pains. Recognizing the significance of what had happened, Laila quickly asked her husband to remind her of this moment later so she could remember, tell him about it, and think it through. She received spinal anesthesia afterward to help manage the contractions, and about four hours later, their son was born in what she described as an incredibly strong emotional and beautiful experience. The near-death experience profoundly changed Laila's beliefs about life and death, eliminating her fear of death and giving her firm belief in an afterlife. She described feeling healing and universal energy during the experience and gained insights about the meaning of life, particularly regarding her mission to care for her sick mother. The experience also strengthened her love for her family and gave her a sense of inner peace and reduced obligation to care for others.
