In February 1990, Josef, formerly an atheist from Czechoslovakia, was attacked by two Communist police officers who objected to his "Havel for President" sign during the post-Velvet Revolution period. After being beaten with truncheons and sustaining a severe head injury, Josef found himself observing his unconscious body lying on frozen grass. He initially didn't recognize the man as himself until noticing identical shoes, jacket, and hair. Realizing he needed help, Josef instantly transported to his home where he saw his sleeping children and wife reading, though she could sense his presence without seeing him. Returning to his body's location, Josef experienced profound peace and freedom before seeing a bright point of light above that beckoned him. He was pulled toward the light at increasing speed, creating a tunnel-like effect from passing objects. During this journey, he received instant nonverbal answers to any questions. Upon reaching the bright light, Josef became part of it and encountered a being of pure love who knew every detail of his life. Together they watched a complete life review where Josef painfully judged his own past actions. The being comforted him with overwhelming love throughout this difficult process. Josef was told he must return to Earth for unfinished work and was shown glimpses of his future. After being unconscious and tended by an emergency doctor, Josef returned to his body. The experience transformed him from atheism to Christianity, leading to decades of compassionate service until a heart attack forced him to moderate his ascetic lifestyle.
