Joan experienced electrocution while taking a shower when a curling iron hooked onto her wrist and she could not remove it. She was concerned about her four-year-old son who might touch the iron and both would die. She eventually fell into the tub from the pain and stopped breathing. Initially experiencing severe pain, she then felt complete calm and peace with no more pain. She saw an extraordinary light like looking at the sun with eyes closed. Air suddenly returned to her lungs and she jumped out of the tub in a millisecond to find her son holding the curling iron plug, having saved her life by unplugging it. The experience involved clinical death with cessation of breathing and was both pleasant and distressing. She felt every fiber of her body was on fire initially, but then experienced incredible peace and happiness, though worried about her son being motherless and being found dead naked.
