At age 15, Kurt had severe pneumonia and thought he was dying. After receiving a penicillin injection, his father took him home instead of to the hospital due to lack of insurance. Every breath was painful with a great weight on his chest. Several nights later, his spirit left his body and experienced being in a place with a gathering of souls or spirits. He sensed great peace, tranquility, and ecstasy beyond imagination, feeling part of ALL, part of God.

He was mentally communicating with everyone present, including deceased acquaintances, relatives, biblical prophets, and historical figures. There was no dominant force or leader. Every thought interacted with the whole community with everything revealed and crystal clear. He saw the universe stretched out with spirits engaged in mental interaction like master craftsmen contemplating creation. When he told his Lutheran minister father, he was dismissed and told this God was not the God of the Bible. The experience profoundly changed his spiritual understanding.
