A four-year-old boy was hit by a car and his heart stopped for a few minutes, experiencing clinical death with cessation of heart function. He was in a coma following the brain injury sustained in the accident. Exactly one year after the accident, he told his mother about his experience. He reported seeing God, who picked him up and started walking him toward an open door. The child then decided not to go with God and came back. During the experience, he felt pleasant emotions, experienced an out-of-body state, saw an open door (rather than a tunnel), and encountered God as a definite mystical being. The mother also mentions that before this son was born, she had a stillbirth daughter she carried for nine months, and her son speaks of his deceased sister as if he knows her, despite this happening before he was born. After the experience, the child felt closer to God and had heightened spiritual importance in his life. The experience brought the family closer to God and strengthened their faith.
