Hope was swimming in a local pond when she was bitten by a poisonous water snake (water moccasin) which sent her into shock. She lost strength and sank into the water, falling unconscious and nearly drowning. A lifeguard patrolling the pond rescued her after she had been underwater without breathing. Around her during the experience, she felt an extreme sense of warmth in complete blackness, but was processing thoughts and thinking she was going to die without fear. She could take deep breaths of clean, sweet-smelling air despite being underwater and unable to actually breathe. She felt as if floating in a cloud of black warmth with fresh air and sweet scents. Just before awakening, she felt breathing and a giant heartbeat surrounding her, like hot steamy breath swirling around her in the blackness, as if a giant warm being was cradling her. She awoke three days later in a hospital bed, having been in a coma. The experience gradually came back to her memory over the course of a week.
