Francine was under general anesthesia during the birth of her second child on February 17, 1973. Suddenly, she found herself hovering at ceiling level, viewing the delivery room scene below, though she wasn't particularly interested in what was happening there. She mentally nudged herself to pay attention before finding herself floating in a nebula of extreme beauty. She was immersed in the depths of sky or "heaven" and felt a presence but did not try to see it. During this experience, she immediately understood the entire universe, including scientific concepts she had never grasped before, describing it as a rejuvenating fountain of knowledge. She also gained understanding of why she had suffered during her youth. She then simply woke up in the post-operative recovery room, completely certain of her experience and eager to tell her doctor. However, he advised her to forget it or risk being sent to a mental hospital. She kept it secret for years until reading Dr. Raymond Moody's work. The experience profoundly changed her, leaving her with faith, clairvoyance, intuition, and premonitions.
