George experienced his NDE during an angioplasty procedure following his third heart attack in April 1998. During placement of coronary stents in May, he suffered another heart attack and was rushed back for emergency angioplasty. Despite drugs, he was in intense pain when he felt a strange electrical "pop" resonate through his body, originating from his heart. He became immobilized, unable to move, breathe, or change his vision. Panic set in as he couldn't breathe but felt no pain. He observed glimpses of the medical team working, seeing his doctor's fist rising and falling as he pounded on his chest, hearing the empty thudding sound but feeling nothing. He never felt fully out of his body but wasn't exactly in it either. As his vision faded, he realized he was dying and felt primal fear for his family and sadness about never seeing his wife and daughters again. Everything went black. He remembers nothing of where he went during this time, only awareness that he had been "thrust" back into his body from "somewhere" else. He convulsed on the table, gasping for breath with extreme pain throughout his body, thinking this must be what being born feels like.
