Four-year-old Colleen underwent surgery to remove a tumor from behind her right eye and died twice clinically during the procedure. She has burn marks on the base of her spine from electrical resuscitation. Though she has no direct recall of the death during surgery, she was haunted afterward by memories and images she tried to capture in drawings. She experienced a tunnel of bright, colorful light and knew with certainty that she could not take her body through it. She called the place "home" and felt homesick for it for the next twenty years. Upon returning, she looked at her hands and felt strange in her own body compared to the expanded peace and awareness she had experienced. When her mother drove her home from the hospital, she felt sad that their house was not her real home. The experience left her with deep questions, intuitive abilities that surfaced at age seven, and a passion for seeking wisdom and truth. Her homesickness eventually lifted in her twenties when she realized "home" was not some other place but was accessible like another radio station.
