Carol G experienced a near-death event when she slipped on ice in a parking lot and suffered a severe head injury. As she fell, everything went into slow motion, and she could hear her hair swishing back. She tried to control the fall using judo techniques but could not prevent hitting her head. Upon impact, she had an out-of-body experience where she saw herself from outside her body. From her elevated perspective, she observed her body falling and said aloud "that's Carol" in multiple whispered voices, both male and female. She saw extreme brightness despite it being a dark, snowy day, with a building appearing in total blackness in her peripheral vision. She felt herself rush to help the falling person when she was suddenly back inside her body, feeling the pain of two separate impacts to her head. She thanked God for not letting it hit the same place twice. The experience left her with lasting effects including sensitivity to light, diminished taste and smell, and the profound knowledge that consciousness survives bodily death. She now tells people "The body dies, you don't" and believes Earth may be Hades. Despite surviving, she reports preferring sleep to being awake and feeling abandoned by family who were previously supportive.
