At age fifteen, Annie attempted suicide by taking multiple medications simultaneously. According to her doctor and mother, she was clinically dead for five minutes. During this time, she experienced floating through a dark tunnel that seemed alive with circles and pale-bluish fog. She felt incredible happiness, love, and peace, along with a sense of possessing knowledge about everything. At the end of the tunnel was a very bright white light that didn't hurt her eyes. To the left of the light, illuminated by it, were several people waving to her in a happy, welcoming way. She suddenly felt herself being sucked back. Upon awakening in the hospital with her mother at her bedside, Annie was angry to be back despite loving her mother. She initially told only her best friend, presenting it as a dream to avoid seeming crazy. Years later in 1976, a friend gave her Raymond Moody's "Life After Life," and Annie realized her experience matched other NDEs. She remembers having clearer vision, exceptional hearing, acute smell, and pleasant music, though details have faded over time. The experience taught her never to attempt suicide again, that we must wait for the right time to die, and that we're only here briefly. She no longer fears dying, only suffering, and wishes her loved ones would believe they'll see each other again.
