Annette was hospitalized with tetanus after cutting her finger while taking plant cuttings. After receiving medication to initiate bowel action following isolation, she experienced severe convulsions and seizures. In the operating room, she went into total cardiac arrest. Medical staff shocked her three times trying to restart her heart while monitors showed no movement. During this time, Annette had an out-of-body experience, watching the medical team from above. She observed the doctor leave the operating room to inform her husband that "it was all over." While clinically dead, she experienced being surrounded by pure white light and feeling indescribable unconditional love and peace. She felt engulfed in a vastness of peace and love that was beyond words. Despite wanting to remain in this blissful state, she asked God (an awesome presence surrounding her) to let her return, saying her one-year-old baby and two other daughters needed her. She awoke a week later in intensive care in a different town. Her husband later confirmed the doctor had told him she was dead, though there was then commotion in the OR and he was told it was equipment malfunction. The experience eliminated her fear of death and changed her values, making her realize possessions don't matter - only time with children, teaching unconditional love, and accepting differences matters.
