Alan experienced a heart attack at home and was taken to the hospital by ambulance for emergency surgery. During the period between the ambulance trip and being transferred to the cardiac ward following surgery, he found himself sitting on a bench in a wonderful, warm, and comforting place surrounded by light fog. An old man approached him who appeared elderly but felt younger, and Alan immediately felt he had known this person all his life despite not recognizing him. They sat together and talked for what seemed like hours about Alan's entire life - from childhood through his mid-twenties when he married, including many childhood memories Alan didn't consciously remember, through his thirty-plus years of marriage and the death of his wife three years prior. The major feeling throughout was unconditional love from this old friend, with no judgment when discussing his past life. Alan felt incredible peace, joy, and a sense of unity with the world. Since the experience, the same "friend" has visited him twice more at home, about a month apart. Alan now attends a Spiritualism Church, has become more compassionate toward others, spends considerable time helping others socially and financially, and no longer fears death.
