William had just turned 21 and was preparing freebase cocaine in his college apartment with two friends when he overdosed after smoking. After lighting the pipe, his next memory was being in a place of the most comfortable warmth, bright warmth, and perfect peace imaginable. He felt no fear and knew he was somewhere special, far from where he should be, but didn't care. He experienced a protective presence pouring warmth into him and felt at one with this presence. He didn't want to return to this world and became angry when starting to wake up. His friends reported that after smoking, he passed out, fell hard to the ground, stopped breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics injected adrenaline directly into his heart but he remained unconscious for quite some time before waking in the hospital. The nurse told him he had almost died. William gained special knowledge during the experience but forgot the details upon waking, though retained the understanding that death should not be feared. He experienced mystical light, an unearthly peaceful realm, incredible joy and peace, harmony with the universe, a definite mystical being or presence, and information about God's protective, warm presence.
