Victoria experienced an alcohol overdose resulting in clinical death outside a casino in downtown Nanaimo. She fell unconscious with no vitals - no breathing, heartbeat, or pulse. During this time, she had an out-of-body experience where she found herself in a phone booth with her sister who was calling Emergency Medical Services. She tried desperately to communicate with her sister, attempting to calm her down and tell her she was fine and happy, but her sister could not see or hear her. Victoria could observe her sister crying, looking out at passing cars, and continuing the emergency call. She saw the mall clock, heard her sister talking to 911, and observed cars driving by. When someone screamed "She's turning blue!" Victoria suddenly became aware they were talking about her body on the sidewalk. She felt herself being sucked back toward her body. The experience left her feeling calm and unconcerned during the OBE, though frustrated when unable to communicate. Afterward, she developed increased interest in topics of death and the afterlife.
