Steve was conducting a seminar when he experienced sudden severe abdominal pain from acute necrotizing pancreatitis. He had been studying gratitude and immediately sensed this would be life-changing, maintaining peace even while waiting for the ambulance. By November 18th, while two friends were visiting, his vital signs collapsed and medical staff said to call his family as "this is it." During this crisis, Steve found himself without his body in what seemed like a large room, surrounded by pure consciousness and total love. He encountered deceased relatives in consciousness form - no bodies, just awareness. He experienced flashes of all the lives he had touched, initially not realizing it was his own impact being shown. When asked "Stay or go?" he surrendered completely to the moment, thinking "thy will be done." His grandfather was present, and his estranged father appeared, requesting to wait with him, though Steve chose to have his grandfather remain instead. The experience was characterized by overwhelming love and the realization that the lives we touch matter eternally. After recovering, Steve found his experience had eliminated his fear of death and empowered him to live fully, following his calling without fear.
