Sara, age 31, underwent an emergency cesarean section after 17 hours of prolonged labor on October 13-14, 1974. The moment Demerol was injected into her vein, she blacked out completely, losing all senses - sight, hearing, speech, and feeling. She experienced pitch blackness with no sense of time until a bright light appeared, growing larger into a tunnel. Inside this tunnel were myriads of bright, multicolored lights on its walls. She flew alongside the tunnel while hearing angelic songs she had never heard before, feeling peaceful and sensing she was flying.
The tunnel was vividly funnel-shaped, small at the end and wide where she was floating along its side. She wanted to touch the tunnel walls but could not. The tunnel appeared as blinding light like the sun, though she saw no other beings inside except herself. She was aware of her identity throughout the experience. The multicolored lights and angelic music seemed to blend together in harmony. When Sara remembered her newly delivered baby, she willed herself to return with deep breath. The return journey occurred through a deep black well where she felt extreme heaviness on her entire body and legs, unable to lift her arms or legs - heavy like lead. She experienced anguish, pain, uncertainty, and fear of not returning during this descent. Sara's vital signs had become dangerously weak with rolled-up eyes, bluish discoloration of fingers, lips and toes, and no response to name calling or pin prick stimulation. Both her parents, who are doctors, confirmed these medical details. The experience strengthened her faith in God and convinced her of life after death, making her more compassionate, less self-centered, and less materialistic.
