Roy T, age 55, underwent a chemically-stimulated cardiac stress test that led to a life-threatening event. Following the test, he experienced chest pain and feared falling while walking. He was taken by wheelchair to the emergency room and helped onto a gurney where he lost consciousness. The chemical overstimulation of his heart created a dangerous cardiac situation requiring emergency intervention.
During his unconscious state, Roy experienced a profound near-death encounter. While lying flat on his back on the gurney, he perceived a bright light or conduit in the upper right corner of the room's east wall. The light manifested as a brightly lit tunnel with a round shape and intense luminosity reminiscent of an operating room light, yet it didn't hurt his eyes. This unusual directional orientation - heading east rather than upward - surprised him based on previous prayer experiences. Standing outside the conduit were two angels whom Roy recognized as his deceased younger sister and nephew, both victims of separate car crashes. Though they appeared as spheres of white light rather than in physical form, he felt absolutely certain of their identities through an inner knowing rather than visual recognition. The experience felt instantaneous yet left him deeply relaxed and reassured, a remarkable state given his autism typically makes relaxation virtually impossible. Roy was disappointed when he regained consciousness, having wanted to proceed toward the Light. However, he felt profoundly comforted knowing that two family members were watching over him as guardian angels. The experience reinforced his existing Mormon faith while surprising him with the revelation that multiple angels could watch over one person simultaneously. Despite the brevity of the encounter, it left him with lasting peace about the afterlife and the continuity of family bonds beyond death.
