Ross F experienced a massive cardio-pulmonary embolus after developing a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his heart and lungs. The clot formed after sitting with his leg wrapped around a chair leg at university, initially causing swelling in his calf. Despite worsening symptoms including shortness of breath and severe pain in his pulmonary artery area, he delayed seeking treatment until the pain became unbearable. After being admitted to Langley Memorial Hospital, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
The critical event occurred when Ross collapsed in the hospital washroom, hitting his face and bleeding on the floor. His heart stopped for several minutes due to a portion of the blood clot moving into his heart and lungs. During this clinical death, he found himself in a dark void encountering three giant shrouded humanoid beings. The central being offered to answer any cosmic questions. Ross asked about the purpose of human life in the universe but cannot remember the complex answer, only that the being said "Scientists like to make things complicated" when questioned further. The most striking observation was when the central being turned, revealing a profile that was humanoid but distinctly non-human, with a very large nose, prominent forehead with visible veins, and grey-tinged skin. Ross sensed this being was ancient in a universal sense. After telepathic communication between the beings, Ross felt he had been evaluated and found "not ready," leaving him feeling humiliated. He then found himself on a gurney hearing medical staff say "I have a weak pulse" as they revived him. Following emergency treatment including a "clot buster" medication, Ross survived what his hematologist called nothing short of a miracle. The doctor had only seen one other survivor of such a massive embolus in all his years of practice. Ross returned home for Christmas, forever changed by his encounter with death and the mysterious beings.
