Roberto experienced a car accident and immediately found himself in a canoe on a dark tropical river resembling the Amazon. He was pushing the boat with a pole, wearing straw hat and white trousers, navigating through lush vegetation with intensely bright colors. He felt unprecedented peace and bliss, with no memories of his earthly life. An elderly man on a wooden bridge welcomed him, saying they had been waiting for him. The man's face emanated positive light conveying peace. Roberto lived in this realm in a wooden shelter where weather could change instantly and rain left no wetness. After being in coma for 35-40 days on Earth, Roberto was told by the man that he must return. When Roberto resisted, the man transformed into a being of light who expressed regret but said it had been decided otherwise. Multiple beings of light surrounded and caressed Roberto with sadness about his return. He was pulled back through a tunnel of white light, stretching his arms toward the beings until awakening in severe pain. For weeks afterward, he continued stretching his arms out, puzzling physicians. Roberto describes gaining renewed Catholic faith and experiencing a later spontaneous out-of-body experience.
