Rita experienced an air embolism that triggered cardiopulmonary arrest during surgery. She had prayed to St. Therese for protection and received a card with a rose from her mother just before the event. During her NDE, she found herself in the corner of a room watching what she believed was a man on a hospital bed being resuscitated. She observed with great interest as doctors brought more machines and worked frantically to save the patient's life, feeling their tension and worry. Upon awakening, a nurse told her that her mother had saved her life and it was a miracle she survived. In the ICU afterward, Rita had remarkable after-death experiences including hearing monks chanting from what appeared to be a doorway, experiencing beautiful vibrational music that she described as love itself, and sensing the story of an elderly woman in an adjacent room (later confirmed empty) whose family was debating life support. Rita felt she was tiptoeing on the line between realms for several days, able to perceive things from the other side including feelings of pure bliss and peace as souls entered the light.
