In July 1993, Regina experienced chest tightness and weakness, attempting to tell her father she wasn't feeling well, but he had already left for work. Returning to her room hoping to feel better, she sat on her bed feeling short of breath before passing out. Her next awareness was of staring up at the ceiling and floating progressively closer to it. The proximity to the ceiling caused panic and claustrophobia, as she was so close she could touch it. In her panic, she managed to turn over and witnessed a shocking scene below: her own body lying on the bed with eyes and mouth wide open, lips bluish-purple, and overall pale blue coloration. To her left, a bright, sparkling shaft of light shone down from the ceiling next to the bedroom door, notably not coming through the window, which frightened her.
Faced with this terrifying situation, Regina knew she needed help but couldn't go through the bedroom door because she didn't dare approach the strange light. She decided to pound on the wall to get her brother's attention, knowing he was in the adjacent living room watching TV. To her surprise, when she attempted to bang on the wall, she passed through it and found herself in her closet. There she discovered money she had hidden from her brother and lost track of during repeated re-hidings. She then passed through the closet wall into the living room where she observed her brother watching MTV, specifically the music video "No Rain" by Blind Melon, while eating cereal. Despite yelling at him, he couldn't hear her and continued eating. She witnessed him blow his nose into his hand in a gross manner, then go to the kitchen for another bowl of cereal, return to the couch, and repeat the nose-blowing behavior. Realizing her brother couldn't see or hear her, Regina's thoughts shifted from needing help to needing to return to her body. She passed back through the walls, returning to the area above her bed where she positioned herself directly above her body. Looking down at herself while floating, she suddenly felt sucked back in, experiencing what felt like being punched from the inside as her heart banged against her chest with her first gasping breath. She jumped up feeling initially energetic but immediately realized she was very weak and could barely stand. Her brother exclaimed she looked blue, like a ghost, and when she looked in the bathroom mirror, she was shocked to see herself exactly as she had from above - pale blue skin, bluish-purple lips, with visible facial veins. The verification of her out-of-body observations was immediate and striking. Regina told her brother everything she had witnessed, and he was shocked that she could describe the exact music video he had been watching and all his actions, including the embarrassing nose-blowing. She went straight to the closet and retrieved the hidden money exactly where she had seen it while out of body. She chose not to tell her father, afraid no one would believe her. The experience provided undeniable evidence to both Regina and her brother that consciousness can exist outside the physical body and observe verifiable events that would be impossible to know through normal means.
