At age five in 1972, Michael was staying with his family at a Holiday Inn in Duluth when he experienced a drowning incident in the indoor pool. While riding on his teenage Uncle Hank's back as he swam, Michael fell off and sank, panicking and inhaling water as he screamed and cried underwater. He drowned, experiencing terrible fear before hearing bells ringing and everything going dark.
Suddenly, he found himself floating in the air above the pool, observing all the activity below as people worked on his body. He felt no fear, only sadness seeing his uncle crying. His consciousness was extraordinarily clear - he noticed a bright light in the corner of the ceiling and headed toward it, entering a long tunnel of light and sound. The tunnel had blurred sides with various colors, and he heard multiple types of bells including phones ringing and large bells gonging. His vision was clear straight ahead but blurry on the sides, and he felt himself rushing forward very quickly with wind in his ears. As he traveled through the tunnel toward an increasingly bright light at the end, he suddenly heard a deep but not frightening male voice say "No!" very loudly. He felt someone grab him by the back of his neck and pull him backward very hard - not painfully, but with great force and speed. He watched the tunnel recede as he was pulled back, then awakened surrounded by concerned faces looking down at him by the poolside. Following the experience, he developed strong intuition and psychic abilities that lasted for years, including the ability to know things before they happened. His family came to accept and even seek his advice based on these intuitive insights.
