During childbirth complications involving a stroke and seizures, Marsha experienced a profound near-death experience. While unconscious, she found herself floating above her body in the trauma room, observing the medical scene from above. She could see a nurse, doctor, priest preparing to give last rites, and her husband quietly weeping in the corner. She had visual perception but could not hear anything during this observation phase.
She then suddenly entered a very dark tunnel, continuing forward because a male voice was calling "Come my child." Though apprehensive, she was not afraid. She emerged into pure light with no walls, floor, or ceiling - just brilliant illumination. The voice or being told her to come with him. At that moment, she remembered she had just given birth and begged to be sent back, fearing for who would raise her baby. She specifically asked the being to return for her when her daughter was grown and no longer needed her. Instantly, she was back observing her body from above. A red-haired nurse turned her face to the right, she vomited, and then awoke in a hospital room. When she asked to thank the red-haired nurse, staff told her it was impossible she could have seen anyone since she was unconscious, and besides, that nurse had left on leave. Her husband confirmed seeing everything she described but told her never to speak of it, fearing people would think her insane. The experience took three years of recovery from the stroke.
