In 2006, Manuel underwent cardiac catheterization for angioplasty when his heart suddenly stopped, requiring electrical shock with paddles twice. During the cardiac arrest, he found himself in an immense dark area filled with indescribable peace, love, and serenity. He sensed thousands of souls surrounding him though he could not see them, and felt waves of love flowing through him. After being shocked back to life, he experienced excruciating pain and a sense of loss. The nurse confirmed he had coded and required two shocks.
In September 2009, during another cardiac procedure, Manuel had a second NDE. This time he returned to the same peaceful place bathed in love. He encountered an older man he did not recognize but felt he had known for a long time. The man told him it was not his time and he still had things to do before being sent back. The medical team again confirmed his heart had stopped. Both experiences left Manuel with complete peace about death, knowing what awaits him when his time comes. He describes the feeling of pure love as beyond words - like waves flowing through him in a place without boundaries.
