At a lake in Washington in 1958, Lois was jumping off a dock with other children when a boy jumped on top of her, pushing her underwater. She struggled desperately to surface but could not escape. The pain and struggle were intense until she suddenly surrendered and "went." She lost consciousness and experienced clinical death requiring resuscitation. The last time she had looked at a clock it was 4 AM, and when she revived it was 7 AM, though the critical period of cardiac arrest lasted only seconds.
During her near-death state, a beautiful white light accompanied by extraordinary music enveloped her. She immediately stopped struggling and felt an incredible calmness wash over her. The pain completely disappeared, replaced by a profound sense of relief and peace. She experienced love more intense than anything she had ever felt in her life. All fear vanished, and she felt completely at ease with what was happening. The light was described as vibrating and beautiful, pure white in nature. She found herself in what seemed to be another realm characterized by the brilliant white light and spiritual music unlike anything she had heard before. The experience felt timeless, as if time had lost all meaning or ceased to exist. Her senses were incredibly vivid - her vision was clearer "like the fog was lifted" and her hearing was enhanced. She felt a complete unity with the universe and understood that the universe was constantly growing and expanding. When she returned to consciousness, someone was performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on her. The experience fundamentally transformed her life - she completely lost her fear of death and actually looks forward to it when her time comes. She developed psychic abilities including clairvoyance and maintains constant communication with what she calls "source." The experience led her to embrace spirituality over organized religion.
