In August 2008, Jill had been hospitalized for two weeks when her cardiologist delivered devastating news: her heart was "not compatible with living." He withdrew over 2 liters of fluid from her pericardial sac, but approximately 4 hours later, the fluid rushed back, causing her to scream, cry, and clutch her neck, feeling like she was choking from the heat. A scan confirmed the fluid had returned to her severely damaged, enlarged heart. She had been on the transplant list and was being treated with dangerous IV medications in the Intensive Care Unit, unable to lift her head without passing out.
During this life-threatening crisis, Jill had a profound near-death experience that she didn't recall until nearly a year later. She found herself above her hospital bed watching nurses running around with excited voices trying to save her. Most remarkably, Jesus was beside her in the bed, holding her like a child. A rush of overwhelming love and joy flooded through her like a warm, honey-like texture, entering through her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, bringing complete peace and calm. She was given a choice to go home to heaven or stay, and though she desperately wanted to go after seeing colors and lights never seen on earth and feeling unprecedented joy and love, she chose to stay until her parents died, feeling they couldn't withstand another child's death after losing her sister in 1976. Jill observed bright lights in a circle near her hospital door - lights and colors she cannot describe that were moving in a circle and sparkling, which she understood to be a doorway to the afterlife. Her deceased grandparents appeared, sitting with her in a triangle formation, holding hands and praying for her silently while she felt surrounded in a bubble of love. Time moved differently - slowly for her "conversation" with Jesus while the nurses moved at quick speed. She gained profound knowledge that the afterlife isn't some faraway place but is just on the other side of death, almost inside us, and that we cannot fathom how much we are loved by Jesus. Following this experience, Jill made a miraculous recovery that astounded her doctors, who couldn't understand how she survived the fluid rushing back into her already critically damaged heart. Within 17 days, she came off the transplant list and walked out of the ICU, 50 pounds lighter but transformed. Her spiritual life changed dramatically - from uncertainty about God to absolute certainty of His existence, waking each day thinking of Jesus and praying throughout the day. She has not had a single bad day since, no longer fears death, and experiences periodic feelings of divine presence similar to her NDE, especially during health challenges. Her relationships have improved with a Christian focus, and she lives with unshakeable faith, knowing she didn't just develop faith but experienced the reality of Jesus firsthand.
