On January 19, 2006, Jeter was returning home from work at midnight when he struck a deer while riding his motorcycle at approximately 15 miles per hour. The impact resulted in a severe head injury with a laceration above his right eye and a concussion that caused him to lose consciousness. Upon awakening, he couldn't remember who he was or where he lived for about an hour, experiencing complete amnesia before his identity suddenly flashed back into his mind. Despite the severity of the injury requiring ten stitches, he experienced an unusually high adrenaline level and felt physically strong enough to ride his bike home before going to the hospital.
During his unconscious state, Jeter found himself in what appeared to be a theater-like space with fluffy red surroundings. On a screen before him appeared a walkway that went to the left, though he couldn't see where it led. Most significantly, he felt the presence of Jesus sitting to his right, though he didn't look directly at him. In this space, he experienced total acceptance and what he could only describe as a "heavenly feeling." The space seemed to know everything about him - every thought he had ever had - with no need for words as every thought was already known. He felt completely unified with this environment and all beings within it, experiencing total acceptance and caring love. The most remarkable aspect of Jeter's experience was the complete transparency of thought and the sense of total unity with the universe. He understood that no words or verbal communication was needed because every thought and feeling he had ever experienced was already known. This omniscient awareness brought not judgment but complete acceptance. He also gained insight that all beings are connected in oneness and that love and unity are not just possible but are the true nature of existence. The experience was so profound that he became angry upon returning to his damaged body, wanting to remain in that heavenly place. The experience profoundly transformed Jeter's understanding of existence. He gained absolute confirmation of what he had always believed possible - to be totally one with the universe and to experience complete acceptance and love from the divine. Six years later, he had a synchronistic experience when he saw a similar walkway at a doctor's office that triggered peaceful feelings and memories of his NDE. He came to understand that earthly struggles and ego prevent people from experiencing this heavenly state, and that we must rise above our physical circumstances to touch this divine reality. His Christian faith was strengthened with a deeper understanding of oneness, divine love, and the interconnection of all beings.
