James N experienced an NDE following a severe car accident requiring two surgeries. Coming out of his second surgery, he went into a coma with life-threatening complications from medication. He entered a tunnel and was met by deceased friends and relatives, including his best friend John who had died by suicide years earlier, his grandfather who died when he was 7, several uncles, and his brother-in-law Bill who died when James was 15. He was taken to see a remarkable vision of a worm-like being operating controls of massive cylinders containing every type of animal and person imaginable, all progressing from adults down to babies, including various fish species. As he walked toward this being, he heard a voice telling him "you go back and be a better man." Despite feeling incredibly warm and loved and not wanting to return, he found himself back in his body experiencing severe pain. The doctor was asking if he knew where he was, and his wife reported that he had been talking about the tunnel and light and seeing his dead friend before they revived him. James later received two confirming signs that his experience was real, which his wife also witnessed. The experience transformed him from having no religious faith to becoming a Christian, though this transformation took time. He developed close Christian friendships and was able to comfort others who lost loved ones by sharing his knowledge of the better place that awaits. He gained certainty about God's existence, heaven, the afterlife, and lost all fear of death. Years later, when facing cancer at age 56, he felt no fear, knowing he would return to that wonderful place.
