Genevieve was hospitalized for life-threatening cerebral bleeding that had reached the ventricle, requiring emergency neurosurgery with drainage. The doctors gave little hope to her parents. She spent 4 weeks in intensive care followed by 4 weeks in a special clinic while in a coma. During this time, she experienced floating above the hospital where she was being treated, observing details from above including parked cars and the winter garden entrances flooded with light. She felt weightless, warm, and secure, able to move in any direction at will. When she came out of the coma, she had no memory of the 8 weeks except for what she thought was a dream. Nine months later, during a return visit for a CT scan, she was surprised to discover that everything she had seen in her "dream" was real - the entrances she observed had been built after her previous visit 10 years earlier. Her parents confirmed she had been brought in through the back entrance and never left the intensive care unit during her stay. This verified out-of-body observation of real architectural features she could not have known about transformed her perspective on life. Despite some remaining handicap from the cerebral bleeding, she emerged from the experience feeling satisfied, hopeful, and with a profound sense of wellbeing.
