In 1981, three-year-old Gary was playing at the edge of a street with his brother, running back and forth across the street near a church where a wedding was taking place. Hundreds of people were blocking the street for the wedding. A car came around the corner and ran over his head. He was found under the car not breathing and had to be pulled out. His mother confirmed that when they extracted him from under the vehicle, he was not breathing for about one minute before suddenly standing up, screaming and breathing again on his own. He suffered massive trauma including broken arms, one leg in plaster, a fractured skull, and blood coming from his ears.
During the time he was not breathing, Gary experienced himself leaving his body. He saw a light shining on him, and when he looked behind himself, he was floating out of his body. He felt warmth all around him. When he turned around, he saw two male spirits that he did not know. The spirits looked at him, then one grabbed his arms and pushed him back into his body. This was the moment he returned to life and began breathing again. The experience was brief but profound, with Gary clearly existing outside his physical form while clinically dead. The most remarkable veridical aspect was that Gary was confirmed to be not breathing when pulled from under the car. His mother later told him that one minute after being extracted without breathing, he suddenly stood up and started screaming and breathing again - corresponding exactly to when the spirit pushed him back into his body. Despite being only three years old, Gary retained perfect memory of the experience, remembering it more accurately than other events from that time. He could see through his soul and perceived the two spirits standing above him while his body was lifeless. The experience had lasting effects - Gary developed increased sensitivity to people's feelings and experienced paranormal phenomena including spirits showing themselves, touching him, switching on radios, and banging on objects. His beliefs transformed from uncertainty about God to definitely believing in God's existence and the afterlife. He gained information about love during the experience and maintains no fear of death.
