Fernando was driving with friends as a youngster when the brakes of their VW Beetle failed on Lake Hill, causing them to crash directly into a rock. He was ejected through the windshield and immediately became aware of floating outside his body, completely lucid and conscious of everything happening. The medical severity was extreme - he suffered a major neck wound that stopped just millimeters from a main artery, which literally saved his life. He required immediate hospitalization and emergency treatment for his severe injuries.
During his out-of-body experience, Fernando encountered invisible beings whose presence he could strongly feel in a rose-whitish environment. The feeling of peace was profound and transcendental, unlike anything he had experienced before. All his problems, anxiety, and anguish completely disappeared. The peaceful, serene environment acted as a magnetic field drawing him toward it. He began moving toward this realm and intuitively knew that if he crossed a certain frontier, he would not be able to return. There was a clear barrier demarcating the boundary between life and death. At that critical moment, a voice in his mind told him he should return because his life's objective was still pending - there was much work yet to do. The most remarkable veridical aspect was Fernando's awareness of the barrier between life and death - a specific boundary that, if crossed, would mean no return. He perceived this as an actual demarcation in space-time between alternating dimensions. He also had enhanced perception of his surroundings while out of body, maintaining complete consciousness and lucidity throughout the experience. His perception of time altered significantly - it felt as though he had entered a different realm where time almost didn't exist or had stopped entirely. Upon deciding to return, Fernando immediately regained consciousness and found himself stuck in the car windshield. Despite having an open wound in his neck, he displayed irrational strength, extracting himself through the window and calmly walking to another vehicle to be taken to the hospital. The experience profoundly impacted him - he believes he was given a second chance at life to accomplish his mission, which he later understood as becoming a parapsychologist who has published over 170 articles on related subjects.
