Eleven-year-old Evelyn fell during gym class and fractured her skull, repeatedly vomiting and passing out in the nurse's office. In the ambulance and hospital, she found herself observing from outside her body. From the ceiling corner, she watched two hospital technicians preparing X-ray plates - one white with blond receding hair, one Hispanic with black balding hair, both around 5'4"-5'6", one wearing a silver stretch-band watch, the other black leather. She observed them handling what looked like handheld blackboards. She witnessed an Indian doctor enter with her father's employee who tried selling him a car, sensing the doctor's disgust at this inappropriate timing. When her stepmother arrived, the doctor said Evelyn wasn't expected to survive the night, causing her stepmother to scream and faint. Evelyn tried calling out but realized "she can't hear me like this," instantly understanding she was in non-physical form. This realization felt familiar, as if she'd experienced it before. Upon thinking this, she was sucked back into her body like through a vacuum hose with swirling air sounds. Her body felt cold, hard, heavy and confining compared to the warm, boundaryless freedom outside where she felt part of everything yet separate. She couldn't move or speak, fearing paralysis before blacking out. She woke nearly a month later from coma. When she described her stepmother's exact outfit (sleeveless baby blue knit jumper with low waist, pleated from hip band, white patent leather purse and heels), her stepmother was horrified, insisting she couldn't have known since she was comatose. After the experience, Evelyn began seeing ghosts regularly and developed lasting Christian faith.
