Edward was diving/snorkeling at Monastery Beach when his spear gun accidentally went off, pinning his foot to the sea floor. Unable to get up in shallow water, he kept swallowing and breathing water as waves lapped over his face. During the drowning, he experienced leaving his body and could see everything happening around him from above. He passed through what felt like a tunnel though darkness encompassed him. He then encountered an unearthly light described as clearly mystical. In this state, he experienced incredible peace, joy, and bliss, feeling united with the universe and understanding everything about it. He heard voices of distressed people around him trying to convey everything was okay. He saw a grandmotherly woman beckoning him to come, waving like grandmothers do with cookies. He understood that life is suffering and death is love, that all is love and everything is love. He felt he was one with the all, experiencing a universal flow wavelength. The experience fundamentally changed his perspective on life and death, removing his fear of death entirely. He was eventually rescued and survived the incident, but the profound spiritual experience stayed with him. He gained insights that life is a rite of passage and that with integrity, one can help many people with fear. Years later, he found he could sometimes pass the energy of the light to others he trusted, allowing them to feel it too.
