Cory was a radio personality who couldn't swim, attending a pool fundraiser in 1978. Despite warning lifeguards about his inability to swim, he was thrown into the pool by four lifeguards who thought he was joking. He became trapped under a protruding ledge, thrashing until his muscles lost strength and his lungs filled with water. He stopped breathing and experienced extreme pain before realizing his life was finished. At the peak of pain, he exited his body and the pain ended. From about 40 feet overhead, he could see his body floating and observed the scene below with 360-degree vision. He could sense the thoughts and emotions of people below - some concerned about him, others worried about getting in trouble, some thinking about unrelated things like dates. He found he could read their thoughts by focusing on them, with emotion acting as a gateway to their thoughts. He experienced overwhelming calmness, well-being, and felt bathed in love. He saw the lifeguards finally dive in to save him and watched the ambulance arrive with paramedics giving him CPR. When he took his first breath, he "popped back" into his body and the pain resumed. He sensed a spiritual presence giving him enlightenment that we are here to learn love, that the soul has always existed and will continue to exist, and that human lifetime is one page from a never-ending book.
